Laura Pedro - Character classes
Laura Pedro began her dance training at Pio-X Conservatory of Music and Dance in Jundiai, Sao Paulo, Brazil at age 5 and at 13 years old she received a prestigious scholarship to join the Halina Biernaska Ballet Classic Dance Academy in Sao Paulo, where she completed her studies in dance. She became part of the Pio-X Dance Company in Sao Paulo, and during this time she won many awards in renowned national and international festivals such as Joinville Dance Festival, Festidanca, Passo de Arte, ENDA. She has performed many roles in ballet repertory such as Don Quixote, Le Sylphide, Coppelia, Le Corsaire, Spartacus, Harlequinade, La Esmeralda, Giselle, Black Swan, Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet.
Laura is qualified as a Professional Dancer by the Union of Dance Teachers from Sao Paulo State, Brazil and she is a full member of the Royal Ballet Academy. She has a wide and varied professional resume including company membership with Pio-X Dance Company, UNICIRCO Circus Company as Dancer and Choreographer, entertainer with International Hotels Magic Life Resorts in Turkey and Greece and in Perth, Kuerazo Latin Dance Productions as Choreographer/Artistic Director, guest soloist with Perth City Ballet, Dance Caption and Dancer with ICW Production for the musical “The Phantom of the Opera”.
During her years in Brazil, she worked as a teacher and dancer in different schools and with Special Needs Children, and also as a volunteer dance teacher with children from the Sao Paulo slums. In Australia, she currently teaches for Perth Ballet Management, the Principal Academy of Dance and Theatre, Perth School of Ballet and Dance Classique WA, and has had a prestigious internship with TRACKSUIT Cia Dance with Disabilities 2014. Laura is currently training with Ms Alida Segal to develop the International Character Dance Syllabus based on the work of the renowned Igor Moiseyev Russian Company.
Laura brings a wealth of international experience and she is most excited to share this with the students at the Perth Ballet Masterclasses.
Katie Chown - Contemporary classes
Katie Chown holds a Bachelor of Arts (Dance) from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, 2007 and a Bachelor of Science (Occupational Therapy) from Curtin University, Western Australia, 2014.
Katie studied ballet at the Graduate College of Dance and the Terri Charlesworth Ballet Centre in Perth and later trained in contemporary dance at the Rotterdam Dance Academy in the Netherlands (2003-2005).
Since 2007, Katie has taught ballet and contemporary dance in a variety of settings to a diverse range of people, including professional ballet students in Perth and a community of marginalised youth in Yangon, Myanmar.
In 2015, she launched her occupational therapy practice, Element Occupational Therapy, while continuing her work as a dancer with Perth-based Remnant Dance Theatre Collective. Katie is interested in integrating her creative arts and health practices in order to engage a diverse variety of communities and people in therapeutic processes.
Katie is excited to be bringing her knowledge and experience both as a dancer and as a health professional to her Contemporary classes for the participants in Perth Ballet Masterclasses for 2017.
